First things first

This is my first attempt into the world of blogging, and who knows if what I have to say will be of interest to anyone out there?

I suppose I should start with an explanation of the title of my blog. I had a little bit of "church" tonight - have you ever had that experience? You aren't sitting in a pew worshiping God, but you are still feeling communion with Him and get to worship Him in spirit and in truth. Well, I talked to my wonderful friend (and often spiritual mentor), Jill. I was updating her on some wonderful things God is doing in my life - giving me an unexpected blessing of peace and reassuring me of His work in my life - and she reminded me of the following verses in Ephesians:

"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way." (1:17-23).

I was struck and encouraged by these verses months ago, but I had mentally misplaced them, if you know what I mean. My conversation - my worship experience - with Jill tonight reminded me of this passage. It's a very accurate cry of my heart, except I don't just want this for others; I want it for me, too. I LONG for God to bless me with His Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I can better understand Him, worship Him, and glorify Him. I yearn for the eyes of my heart to be open to seeing and grasping the hope and inheritance I have in Him through Christ, not to mention to better appreciate the majesty of Who He is. And to think I have the same power through the Spirit of God that He used when He raised Christ from death? I love the reminder at the end, too, that Christ rules over all and fills everything in every way. Wow! So yeah, tonight, I had a great Tuesday evening sermon!

I promise not all my posts will be so serious. I wish I could promise my posts would also rarely be this long.... but for those of you that know me, let's be honest here. I'm not exactly short-winded. ;)

Until next time, here's praying we all have Enlightened Eyes.
