You never can be too careful...

First up: I posted some final pictures from San Juan here. Check them out!

So last night I was at my sister's house alone while she was at a deacons' meeting at her church. She got home a while later, and she walked in carrying Hannah... and a cane. I gave her a puzzled look, and she grinned, put her finger to her lips saying "shhh", and said to Hannah, "Show Tia."

Hannah gets down, Miss hands her the cane, and Hannah limped her way into the kitchen. She had been at Mom and Dad's while Miss was at her meeting and went out on the porch, where she got a splinter since she loves going barefoot. She led my mom by the hand into their bedroom and kept asking for something. Mom finally figured out that Hannah wanted the cane. We're not sure where she got this idea (other than being a brilliant 3 year old) since we don't know that she's ever seen anyone walk with a cane. Anyway, she used it for the rest of the night and even brought it to Missy's house to assist in her mobility.

For the record, that was a very well-embedded splinter; it took about an hour to get it out, with poor Hannah screaming, crying, and struggling to get away. It was on the bottom right side of her second-to-last toe (the little pig that had none, if you will). It was no fun getting it out, but she was rewarded with an Ariel "bamban" (translation: bandaid) after all was said and done.

But here's some photographic evidence of her ordeal. As this post says, I guess you never can be too careful...

Here she is holding the cane. Notice how she is even holding her right foot up a bit to keep the pressure off the injured appendage.

Here's a close-up shot of the toe with the bandaid Mom and Dad gave her at their house.

Another shot, showing her secret (or not-so-secret) enjoyment of this endeavor. To her credit, she shows amazing commitment. Maybe she'll be an actress. She carried that cane into the living room with her and wouldn't walk anywhere without it.
